Questions of a musical nature

Shannon mentioned me over at her site, when answering these questions … I’ve never done one before so why not eh?

Total amount of music files on your computer:
 3912

The last CD you bought was:
Augie March - Moo, you bloody choir

What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?
Some “The Cure” song, I’m not really a fan, i think it was “Friday I’m in Love”. Funnily enough it was a guy named Marcel who was playing it too.

Write down 5 songs you often listen to (at the moment) or that mean a lot to you (at the moment):
In no particular order;
Gold Lion - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Stranger Strange - Augie March
Stained Glass Eye - Elliott Smith
Chicago - Sufjan Stevens
Evening On The Ground (Lilith’s Song) - Iron & Wine

Who are you going to pass this stick to? (4 persons) and why?
Mainly because I think I only know four “bloggers”:

  •  Clint
  • Lee
  • Orangepoweredwristwatch (you could do it here as a comment)
  • Algy (you too could do it here as a comment. Go on, you know you want to.)

Anyone else? (Will & Live you both should) if you read this and feel like telling me about what you are listening to, do it. I like listening to recommendations.

perhaps it is that life’s peaks as well as the troughs are what evoke the strongest expressions.

i think this is quite an intricate topic actually…

Current Favourite Song - Impossible Germany - Sky Blue Sky (Wilco)

Loving this song. The sparse Sonic Youth-esque intro soon settles into two verses up there with Jeff Tweedy’s best work - soulful and melodic, totally heartfelt. Eventually the guitars cut loose into some melodic solo craziness.

For me, Jeff Tweedy is one of those artists who brings such a heartful honesty to his song writing that you can cut him some slack for his misses, because when he hits the mark, it’s so worth waiting for.

I read something about Wilco last night, being criticised for licensing their songs for use in Volkswagon ads.

They retorted they find it hard to get Radio Play. Wierd.

    No, thanks you….

On another matter, found a great M.Ward cover of Green River by Creedence. Swampy, twangy blues guitar - great stuff

I was a bit torn here. I usually just ditch the spam comments.

But you’ve gone and replied to it. Good one. Now if I delete it then you look a bit silly … and I wouldn’t want that.

New white stripes album = extremely good.

Where’d you find that cover Mr. Ionlywatchthesecondhalfofmoviesbecauseifindthatificantpickitupitwasnotworthwatchinginthefirstplace?

Delete away - someone noticed the joke so that’s all I need… ;)

I did an M. Ward search on ITunes and it comes up as the second most downloaded song by M. Ward - which is quite surprising.

White Stripes eh- Guitary? Piano? Stripped back? Fuller sound?…

oh right … is it a free one?

White Stripes? it’s guitars, BIG fuller sound, but less instruments.

He went to a “proper” studio for this one apparently, you can tell as well. He still recorded and mixed to tape.

No, not free - I paid my $1.69. Worth it though!

White Stripes sounds interesting - must check it out

Loving End Of Amnesia (M. Ward) by the way - really have to listen with headphones rather than in the car - as I missed some of the nuances in the lower frequencies. Once again, early indifference replaced by utmost respect!
